Year 9

Week 10

Today is a moment for reunion and celebration. As this edition of Note Day gets released, we are welcoming back our Moonbah cohort to the Cremorne campus, and I could not be more excited to have the full Year Group back together, albeit for only a brief time. After a term apart, I know both halves of the cohort are eager to reconnect, and I wish everyone a wonderful holiday.

Looking back across Term 1, and my first term as Year Advisor, I have been astounded by the sheer diversity of activity amongst our Year 9 students and how willingly they have thrown themselves into school life. From the Swimming Carnival in those early weeks, through to the Musical, the Balmoral Swim for Cancer, Start-Up Studio, Theatresports, Battle of the Bands and the Cross Country, our cohort has shown a remarkable appetite for engagement. As I have said to the students time and again, the people who get the most out of school are invariably those who are busiest within it, and by that measure, our cohort is doing themselves proud.

I also want to take a moment to acknowledge the way our students handled the back end of the term. NAPLAN and end-of-term assessments are never a light load, and I was genuinely impressed by the sense of responsibility and composure our cohort brought to the process. That resilience, quiet as it may be, is its own form of the bravery.

As we head into the holidays, I hope this break serves as a time for rest, reconnection and the restoration after a busy term. Enjoy the time spent together, recharge and come back ready for what promises to be an equally exciting Term 2. And for those keen readers, don’t worry: Mr Gidney’s academic ramblings will be returning with enthusiasm next term.

Balmoral Burn 2026 – Get Involved

Our school community is invited to take part in one of Sydney’s most iconic charity events – the Humpty Dumpty Balmoral Burn, taking place on Sunday 24 May at Balmoral Beach, Mosman.

Celebrating its 25th anniversary, the Balmoral Burn features the famous 420‑metre climb up Awaba Street, all in support of the Humpty Dumpty Foundation, which provides life‑saving medical equipment to children’s hospitals across Australia. Please scan the QR code to register.
