Year 2 Strings Open Lesson

Thank you to the Year 2 parents and carers who were able to join us for our recent Year 2 Strings Open Lesson this week. It was a pleasure to welcome families into the classroom and share a snapshot of the learning that has taken place throughout the Year 2 Strings program.

Students confidently demonstrated the skills they have been developing on their instruments, including correct posture, plucking technique and ensemble playing.

The Open Lesson also provided a valuable opportunity for parents to observe a typical Strings lesson in action and to meet our dedicated Strings tutors, who continue to support and nurture our young musicians.

We are incredibly proud of the progress Year 2 students have made and appreciate the ongoing encouragement and support from our families as students continue their musical journey. Please visit the Music Pulse page if any students are interested in taking lessons for the Violin or Cello.

K-6 Music Incursion: Musica Viva On the Wireless

Our K-6 students thoroughly enjoyed the recent On The Wireless music incursion, which brought the golden age of radio to life through an energetic and highly engaging live performance. Blending humour, storytelling and a wide range of musical styles, the performance captured students’ attention from start to finish.

Students became part of a live studio audience, interacting with performers while experiencing saxophone solos, catchy jingles and a musical journey to Brazil. The dynamic nature of the show gave students insight into how music can be used to tell stories, create atmosphere and connect with audiences in creative ways.

On The Wireless provided a valuable opportunity for students to experience live music-making in an interactive setting, reinforcing concepts explored in the classroom while sparking curiosity and enthusiasm for music. We thank the performers from Musica Viva for delivering such an engaging and memorable experience for our students.

AMEB Examinations – Enrolments Now Open

Enrolments are currently open for AMEB Instrumental exams which will take place in Term 3, as well as Rock School Exams which will be scheduled in Term 4.  Enrolments close on 11 May (Term 2, Week 4) and the enrolment forms for both are on the Junior and Senior Music Pulse Pages

Semifinal Spotlight: Our Alumni Adjudicators

Each Week as we prepare for the Semifinals in Term 2 Week 3, we will do a spotlight on our Semifinal Alumni adjudicators for our Music Performance Competition. This week, we start with our Piano Adjudicator, Michelle Li.

Michelle Li graduated in 2018 and studied Music throughout her time at Redlands. She was actively involved in the Music program as a member of the piano ensemble, orchestra – where she played the violin and also learnt the viola – and choir. She participated in the Senior Music Festival each year alongside performing in Gala Arts where she won the Instrumental division, and won the annual Piano Competition across multiple years.

Alongside her school commitments, Michelle also pursued music studies at the Conservatorium of Music. She had the opportunity to perform in a number of notable events, including an invitation to perform at the Polish Consulate General, performing as part of the Vivid Sydney program and being featured on ABC Classic FM radio. These experiences helped shape her ongoing passion for music and performance which she carries to this day.

We look forward to her return next term!
