Secondary Sport
As we wrap up the term, we are delighted to introduce our Winter Sport Captains for 2026. These students have shown outstanding commitment, leadership and passion for their respective sports, and we are excited to see them step into these important roles. We are confident they will lead with pride, set high standards and motivate those around them to give their best throughout the winter season. We look forward to the positive impact they will make on and off the field as they guide their teams in 2026.
Athletics: Ethan Lee and Elizabeth Whelan
Ethan – For me, Athletics is the home of spirit. It’s that moment when you’re already burning up with excess lactate, and yet you still find it within yourself to kick harder, to chase down your competition and to make it across the finish line. Athletics sits in my heart as a community – a place of culture and belonging. Training with one another, each student getting the other to push harder; cheering and jumping out of the stands; and getting around to celebrate each other’s wins and improvements. Each of these is a beautiful moment that underpins the athletics community, and while athletics comes together on the track and field, its spirit also lives daily for many of us: when you are training, playing a match on the sporting fields, or even in the simpler moments of running around with your mates in a game of tag.
This winter season, I am really keen to see different parts of the Redlands community come together to enjoy an exciting season of Athletics. Athletics is a broad and welcoming environment and a space for meaningful connection. It is always special to see teachers and students connecting through Athletics – particularly when it takes the form of a race and the students win!
Having grown up in the Redlands Athletics community since Year 7 and experienced what a special role it plays in bringing people together, I would love to see younger students, particularly those who are newer to track and field, put themselves out there and get involved. I envision the Athletics community as one that encourages everyone to strive for and achieve their best. I know how much energy and passion the younger students can bring when they go all in and cheer each other on, and so I hope that these students can help bring out the heart of the Athletics community and shape what it means to belong at Redlands.
Elizabeth – Athletics at Redlands has helped me bolster a love for sport, and I am honoured to pass that passion on to others. Although not the conventional “team sport”, Athletics has a unique way of bringing people together, as it helps build confidence and create lasting connections along the way. What I really enjoy about athletics is the variety of events it encompasses, from the 100m sprint, discus throw to long jump. Afterall, who hasn’t tried to run 100m as fast as they can? This universality is what makes Athletics so special.
Over the coming season, I hope that everyone can arrive at the carnival with an open mind, willing to give as many events as possible a go. As Athletics can take so many forms, simply showing up is what matters most, and more than anything, athletics is about enjoying yourself and spending time with friends.
AFL: Sachin Lipscomb
My name is Sachin Lipscomb and I have been playing AFL ever since I moved to Australia, starting club and school footy in Year 7. I love AFL because the game has so much freedom to it, and you always have a role to play in the team’s success, no matter your position. I love being able to run around, put in big tackles and jumps, and of course, scoring goals. I am most looking forward to leading the team this year, full of new faces from Yr 11 and 12 who I am hoping to help guide through the season, hopefully finishing with a premiership in my last year. I can’t wait to get back and genuinely compete this year and bring back some silverware for Redlands. I believe that the AFL program is one of the strongest at Redlands, and it has been great to see the junior sign-ups skyrocket, as I encourage the younger group to keep working hard, showing up for each other, and getting more of their friends to sign up so that the AFL program keeps growing every year. I can’t wait to lead this year and see the growth of the program in years to come.
Cross Country: Luis Senftleben
Running to me was not enjoyable, no matter what sport I played, it was always used as a punishment if we messed up a drill or weren’t paying attention. But when I turned 13 and started doing Track and Cross Country, I realised it was so much more than that. Running became something I genuinely loved. I think it’s one of the best sports because, no matter your ability level, there is always a place for you. Whether you are going for an easy jog, racing for the School, or pushing yourself towards a bigger goal, running is something that can adapt to anyone in a way that not many other sports can.
In the 2026 Winter season, I am most looking forward to helping spread that passion for running in my final year at Redlands. I want to show people that Athletics and Cross Country are for everyone, regardless of whether you are aiming to compete seriously or just want to go for a run with your friends. I’m excited for the team environment, the meets and the chance to encourage more students to get involved and enjoy the sport for what it is.
For the younger students coming through the program, I really want to encourage you to just give it a go. You do not have to be the fastest or the best runner to enjoy it and get something out of it. I definitely was never the best runner, and I probably still am not, but that has never stopped me from loving it. Running has become something I can always rely on. No matter what is going on in life, I can go out for half an hour and come back feeling a little better than before, even if I am usually a bit more sore too.
Football – Boys: Xavier Kwan
My name is Xavier and I am super excited to be your Football Captain for 2026. I have been playing Football all my life and it has been a passion that has brought me so much joy over my time at Junior and Secondary School. I love the team spirit, competitive nature, and cherish all the friends I have made with Football. I hope this year I can inspire players across all Year Groups to find and pursue their passion. My goal for Football in 2026 is to nurture the inclusive nature of the program and encourage players to support their friends across teams and Year Groups. I have high hopes that 2026 can be one of our best yet, and I look forward to seeing everyone on the field.
Football – Girls: Ingrid Rowe
I love Football at Redlands because it gives me a chance to connect with lots of different people from different years. Getting to hang out with my friends and play a sport that I have really enjoyed (since I was seven) is one the highlights of my week. Coming together as a team to develop our skills and ultimately win games is such a rewarding process.
This season, I’m looking forward to making the most out of my final season of Redlands Sport. Making new connections, developing skills and fitness, and having fun with my teammates is something that I will always look forward to in Redlands Sport and something I will definitely miss.
My hope for this season is that everyone gets as involved as they can, whether you’re practically a Football veteran or trying the sport for the first time, stepping out of your comfort zone, trying new things and supporting not only your teammates but your peers in other teams is a way that you can really have fun and develop this season. Good luck to everyone and I’m sure it will be another amazing year for Redlands Football!!
Hockey: Madelien Elzinga
I love my sport because I can connect with girls in younger years and create friendships through a sport that I have been playing since I was four years old. I think that Hockey is such a rewarding sport, when you spend hours of training to prepare for your weekend match and you and your team come together and fight for the win.
I’m most looking forward to new and continued friendships, and developing new skills in the process!
My hopes and encouragements for the younger students is to continue the sense of community and belonging in Hockey, and to create a fun environment where everyone can thrive and succeed within the sport that I have loved for so long.
Netball: Liv Price
I have loved Netball since I was eight years old, and over time it has become a significant part of my life. Through playing, umpiring and volunteering to coach young girls, I have developed a strong passion not only for the game itself but also for the supportive and inclusive community it creates.
In the 2026 winter season, I am looking forward to contributing to the Redlands Netball community, fostering an environment where all players feel supported, motivated and excited to play each and every week. I am thrilled to see the continued growth and achievements of all teams.
To the younger students who have joined the Netball program, I encourage you to get involved and enjoy every training session and game you play with your peers. One of the best things about Netball is that it’s a team sport, so I am certain that you will make long lasting friendships that you will cherish for the rest of your high school years to come.
Rugby: Ash Corn and Digby Scott
Ash – I love rugby because it fosters life skills, values and qualities which you will carry for the rest of your life. Without it, I would never be the person I am, as it’s taught me how to be myself, communicate with one another and work as a team. I’ve learnt to be brave, strong and always carry a smile with a win or loss because I’m still playing it, regardless of the outcome. Using this passion, I’m looking forward to building a stronger team and a more united program, which can carry forward to a larger program in future years. I hope to do so through success and fostering a community, winning games and showing off how strong our program is, regardless of its numbers. Most importantly, though, I hope that Redlands as a team plays together and enjoys every minute of it, because I’m sure many others, along with myself, will miss it when it’s over. Put 110% into every pass, tackle. Don’t play with regret or negativity. Always be yourself and be one with your team until the end of every half, match, season and journey.
Digby – For as long as I could remember sport has always been a core aspect of my life. Growing up with a committed Rugby family, I was introduced to the sport at a very young age and instantly fell in love with it. Across the years, Rugby has been able to foster countless friendships and help teach me valuable life lessons and skills, assisting me to grow and develop as an individual. For the 2026 season, I am excited to further develop my skills as an athlete and challenge myself by stepping up into the leadership role alongside Ash, in addition to meeting new people and strengthening my friendships with the younger years in the squad. My hope for the younger years coming through the program is that they are able to get the same enjoyment and value out of the sport as I did and will eventually leave the program with thriving friendships and lifelong memories.
Snowsports – Ski: Hunter Penney
Hi i’m Hunter. Growing up with a ski coach for a father meant the snow was my second home and only vacation location. I fell in love with skiing when I was very young, skiing with my sister and family on the slopes of Thredbo. The thing that i am most looking forward to in the 2026 season is getting to distract myself from the stress of school and go skiing with my friends, this is on of my favourite parts about going to the snow and helps a lot to stop focusing on school work. I encourage every younger student who has either raced before or who has never competed to just take a chance and give it a go, you’ll make so many great memories with your friends and meet new people through the Snowsports program here at Redlands.
Snowsports – Snowboard: Eva Fitzhenry
Hi, I’m Eva Fitzhenry and I am really looking forward to the opportunity to serve as Snowboard Captain this season.
I started skiing and boarding at Redlands in Year 5 and I have always loved the fun and welcoming atmosphere and the many new connections it has allowed me to make each season. I love the motivation that comes from being in a team and how everybody always turns up to support each other.
I am really looking forward to seeing everyone at the snow again this season and especially meeting people who are new to Snowsports. I can’t wait for the Redlands Cup and Interschools races and to see people giving new things a go, even if they are unsure.
I have always found the culture of Redlands Snowsports to be dynamic and uplifting, and also a great place to reset between studying. I hope that anyone who is interested in Snowboarding will give it a go this season!
Redlands Cross Country Carnival

For those who are on campus or nearby during the holidays, players are also welcome to make use of the Redlands Open Gym Sessions as part of their fitness routine. These sessions provide an excellent environment to stay active, work on strength and conditioning and keep themselves physically prepared. Term 1 Holiday Fitness Centre Sessions – Fill in form

Hockey
The past weekend we played two preseason games against Barker College. The results didn’t go our way, but the girls showed some really promising spells of Hockey throughout. We also have five players play both games which was great to see so early on in the season, giving more of their time over the Saturday fixtures. I hope these games have got the girls excited for the season ahead.
I would also like to congratulate Amelia Roy, Charlotte Roy and Billie Trude on their nominations for the ISA 15/U team this season.

Rowing
Head of the River
Schoolgirl and Schoolboy Head of the River marked the end of the season for most rowers in the program not competing at Nationals. Redlands crews performed well across both Regattas with several crews progressed through to finals and delivered competitive results against a strong field showing the depth of the program.
Congratulations to all crews and a special mention to the following for achieving a podium finish:
Girls Head of the River
SG Para Single Scull – Amelie Horrocks – Silver
SG Yr 9 Double Scull – Pearl Brown, Annalise Beatty – Gold
SG Double Scull – Isobel Campbell, Alanah Winder – Silver
SG 2nd Coxed Quad Scull – Matilda Hugman, Georgia Grace, Lilian Forsyth, Livia Goodland & Lilian Chen – Silver
Boys Head of the River
Overall, it was a solid way to close out the season for many rowers, reflecting the hard work and commitment put in throughout the season. This was unfortunately the last regatta for many students in Year 12 and we wish them the best of luck in the future with their rowing endeavours.
Australian Rowing Championship
At the Australian Rowing Championships held at Lake Barrington, Redlands crews delivered a historic and highly successful set of results over the 2000m course. It was a challenging week of racing, with multiple events cancelled due to strong winds and rescheduled for later in the regatta testing the adaptability of all the crews.
The Boys produced an exceptional performance in the Schoolboy Coxed Quad Scull finishing 2nd, the best result a Redlands Schoolboy Coxed Quad has ever achieved at a national level. The crew of Henry Dobson (Stroke seat), Connor Morrison (3 seat), Tom Hooper (2 seat), Toby Anderson (Bow seat), coxed by Henry Preece and coached by Alec Price pushed the leading crew all the way in a close race, showing strong dedication and determination of the crew, after having a challenging season.
The girls also impressed, with Alanah Winder and Isobel Campbell finishing 2nd in a Coxless Quad as part of a composite crew with Mosman, the crew showed a strong result after only training together a few times showing their ability to adapt quickly and get the best result out of their crew separating from the rest of the field to finish a well rounded race.
In the U17 Coxed Quad, Lily Van Hulsen coxed in a composite crew with Nudgee, Leichhardt and Mosman, securing 3rd place delivering an amazing performance. After a rough start to the week, the crew pulled things back by the end and achieved a fantastic result.
In the Schoolboy Double, Cooper MacDonald (Stroke seat) and Oscar Pearce (Bow seat) did exceptionally well in the double making it through to the A final, finishing in 7th in an extremely difficult final, overall making this an amazing result for the two boys who have also had a challenging season.
In the U19 Coxless Quad the crew of Henry Dobson, Connor Morrison, Tom Hooper and Toby Anderson managed to contest the A final, an impressive result in a highly competitive event, especially as one of the few non-composite school quads in the event and A final.
The Schoolgirl Coxed Quad was another exceptional result, placing 5th in their A final, being very close to 4th place. The crew of Isobel Campbell (Stroke seat), Grace Ford (3 seat), Ava Ford (2 seat), Alanah Winder (Bow seat), coxed by Lily Van Hulsen and coached by Ben Whitewolfe had an amazing race doing very well in this event.
In the U19 Double, the crew of Alanah Winder and Isobel Campbell did very well pushing all the crews in the semi to the line, unfortunately getting knocked out of the event by 0.26 of a second, being so close to making the final. Although they did not make the final, this remains an outstanding result for the double.

Redlands came 62nd overall, with more than 100 schools and clubs entered at this event
Overall, it was a highly successful regatta for Redlands, with one of the strongest performances at Nationals Redlands has ever had, with three crews on the podium and very strong results across all crews with all the crews making A Final. A special thank you goes to all the parents for their ongoing support throughout the season, from early mornings and training sessions to travelling and supporting at Nationals and other regattas during the season. Their commitment and encouragement play a huge role in the success of the program and the opportunities provided to all athletes, so again a big thank you to the parents who came down to Nationals, the event wouldn’t have run so smoothly without your help.
Sailing
Two Redlands Sailing teams proudly represented the school at the NSW Secondary Schools Teams Racing Championships, demonstrating outstanding resilience, strength and teamwork throughout the weekend. Battling challenging conditions, including strong winds and persistent rain, both teams showed determination and composure on the water. Their ability to adapt, support one another and stay focused under pressure was a testament to their preparation and spirit. Across every race, they embodied sportsmanship and perseverance, making Redlands incredibly proud.
