Spring Fair – This Weekend!

This weekend is Redlands’ Spring Fair, an event that has seen a huge amount of effort put in by people from across the school community to ensure the day is a fantastic one for all in attendance! If you have not yet secured your coupons and rides wristbands, there is still an opportunity to visit the event site to secure them at the discounted pre-sale price of $50!

I am particularly pleased to see many of our cohort volunteering their time to support the event, setting up activities, manning stalls and helping to pack-down the event.

If you are still undecided on whether to attend, some added motivation might be that you will be able to find me ready to take the plunge in the dunk tank at 11:15am! Fingers crossed we get the lovely spring day the weather promises!

Year 10 Week in Review:

Year Assembly – Online Safety

On Wednesday, the Deans of Students, Mr Bowmaker and Mrs Willis, visited our year assembly to offer some important messages to the cohort about maintaining their online safety. In our current moment of rapid AI growth and technological change, the school is increasingly aware of the harms that can face students via online interactions and key facts were provided about students’ right and responsibilities, actions they can take to stay safe, and how trusted adults in the school can support them, should they or peers they know, ever face challenging interactions or behaviours online. Our Deans of Students particularly explored the impact of Generative AI in the creation of deep fakes and image-based abuse, explaining clearly that the creating or sharing of AI-generated or altered images of others is never acceptable. Students were offered clear instructions about the importance of speaking to a trusted adult should they find themselves subject to image-based abuse and given directions to access in-app reporting tools to report any harmful content on social media accounts. The important educative and supportive role of the E-Safety Commissioner was also discussed with students.

I encourage parents and carers to be familiar with the E-Safety Commissioner website, as it contains a wealth of valuable information around raising digitally resilient children, understanding the rights and responsibilities of children online and supporting your child should they ever face a challenging online interaction.

RUOK Day

Today Redlands embraced the importance of asking ‘Are you okay?’ and thereby reminding us all of the importance of mental health awareness. Supporting the mental health and wellbeing of our students is a crucial part of our philosophy at Redlands it lies at the heart of our Social and Emotional Learning programming. RUOK Day is a way to raise awareness of the importance of short check-ins with family, friends and peers to ensure they have the support they need. It involves four simple steps:

  1. Ask R U OK?
  2. Listen
  3. Encourage action
  4. Check in

While it is important to check-in with peers, friends and family every day, RUOK Day acts as a good reminder for us all to think beyond ourselves and support others in our community where we can. You can find more about the RUOK Day initiative at www.ruok.org.au/.

Term 4 Harbour Cruise

On Wednesday 25 November, our cohort will be dressing in their best and heading out for a night of fun and connection in the annual Yr 10 Redlands Harbour Cruise. This is the official event for the Yr 10 Class of 2026 and it will begin at King St Wharf at 7:00pm (arrival time 6:30pm) with a return disembarking time of 10:15pm.

Next week, an official event letter will go out to all parents / carers to provide the full details of the event. Once you receive this, please act promptly so you can secure your tickets!
