Secondary Sport

As we move towards the end of a busy winter season, we would like to remind all students, families, coaches and staff that tickets are still available for our Winter Sports Presentation Dinners next Friday evening. These events provide a wonderful opportunity to celebrate the achievements, commitment and growth of our students throughout the season, while recognising the contributions of coaches, managers and families who have supported our programs.

If you have not yet secured your ticket, we encourage you to do so as soon as possible. We look forward to coming together to acknowledge another successful winter season and celebrate the many highlights across our sporting community.

This weekend also sees the return of the Redlands Spring Fair. As a result, there will be some adjustments to training schedules and venue access. Families are reminded to check the updated schedules in student calendars and communications from individual program directors for the latest information.

Looking ahead, summer sport preparations continue with trials scheduled for Saturday 19 September. We encourage all students involved in summer sport programs to ensure they are familiar with their trial details and arrive prepared for the day.

Finally, we extend our best wishes to all athletes selected in the Redlands team for the ISA Athletics Championships on Tuesday. Selection is a fantastic achievement and reflects the dedication shown throughout the season. We wish our squad every success as they represent Redlands against schools from across the association.

Thank you for your ongoing support of sport at Redlands as we finish the winter season, launch into summer sport preparations, and celebrate another exciting week of student participation and achievement.

Basketball

We’ve had a fantastic start to basketball trials this season! After a competitive and closely-watched selection process, players have now been placed into their teams and squads for the year ahead.

What has stood out most throughout trials has been the commitment, effort, and enthusiasm shown by every student involved. Win or lose, drill after drill, our players have brought their best each session — and that attitude speaks volumes about the character of this group.

Our Saturday sessions at Galuwa have been a particular highlight. The energy on the court has been infectious, but it’s the way players have supported and encouraged one another — cheering on teammates, offering advice, celebrating each other’s improvement — that has really set the tone. This is exactly what the Redlands Rhino spirit is all about: working hard, lifting each other up, and building a culture we can all be proud of.

A big thank you to the students for their dedication, to the parents for their support in getting players to sessions, and to our coaches and staff for their time and guidance in making trials run so smoothly.

Keep up the great work — we can’t wait to see what this season brings!

Football

We are looking forward to the Football Presentation next week at the Hilton Hotel, where we will come together to celebrate the 2026 Football Season and reflect on the many exciting moments throughout the year.

As we look ahead to Term4 , activity selection for our Summer High-Performance Football Program is now open in Clipboard in activity selection. The program has been specifically designed to support our players’ continued development and prepare them for the 2027 Football season.

The program will focus on four key areas of the game:

  • Technically – developing individual skills and technical ability
  • Tactically – improving game understanding, decision-making and tactical awareness
  • Physically – developing fitness, strength, speed and physical preparation
  • Mentally – building confidence, resilience, focus and a strong performance mindset

I am also pleased to confirm that our two First XI Coaches, Mr John Sawa and Mr Grant Lee, will be involved in delivering the program.

We are very excited about the opportunities this program will provide and look forward to supporting our players as they continue to develop and take the next step in their Football journey.

If you experience any problems with the selection process, please don’t hesitate to contact me at ggomez@redlands.nsw.edu.au.

Touch Football

As per the pulse news article shared earlier this week, the Touch Football Student Calendar has now been updated with student Draft Teams. These teams are not final. They are designed to give coaches the opportunity to work more closely with a group and continue assessing players as we move through the trial process.

Over the coming sessions, coaches will continue to make recommendations for player movement based on skills, development and positional needs, particularly as we move into more game-based trial sessions. (Trial games will be held against schools on the 19th of September at Mac Uni)

Sailing

Redlands Sailing Weekly Update

Another productive week on the water for our Redlands sailors, with students continuing to develop their skills across both the Keelboat Development and Pacer Racing Squad programs.

Our Keelboat Development sailors have been focusing on teamwork dynamics, boat handling, and sail trim. Training sessions have encouraged crews to work closely together, improving communication and understanding of their individual roles onboard while building confidence in a range of conditions.

The Pacer Racing Squad has been sharpening up on boat positioning, starts, and racing rule scenarios to support clear and confident decision-making ahead of the upcoming regatta season. These practical exercises have provided valuable opportunities for sailors to apply the Racing Rules of Sailing in realistic situations and develop a stronger understanding of tactical racing.

It has also been fantastic to see several new helm and crew partnerships established over recent weeks. As sailors continue to progress through the program, students are gaining experience in a variety of onboard roles, helping them develop well-rounded sailing skills and providing a clear pathway for future development and racing opportunities.

A highlight for our Pacer sailors this week was the opportunity to begin using some new equipment, with a number of new sails recently arriving for the fleet. The new sails have been warmly welcomed by the sailors and will provide excellent opportunities for training and performance development as we move into the regatta season.

Reminder: There will be no sailing this Saturday, 12 September, due to the Redlands Spring Fair. We hope all families enjoy the festivities and look forward to welcoming everyone back on the water the following week.

We look forward to another great block of training as our sailors continue preparing for a busy and exciting summer season on Sydney Harbour.
